TRAVELING SALES KIT
In this iteration of the Triangle Head Project, the Traveling Sales Kit (Prototype) explores the existential self through the aesthetics of the nomadic salesperson. Often a comedic yet tragic figure, the traveling salesperson is represented through the articles of their profession. This inventory or “baggage” that a person carries into any given social situation greatly affects the outcomes of a social transaction. The multitude of ways to “sell” oneself is a form of self-marketing and authorship of identity as others consciously and implicitly interpret these as an expression of morals, values, and perspectives on life. The found-object prototype and handmade merchandise are an assertion of creative voice through DIY and craft-based media as a form of self-discovery that plays upon the queerness of kitsch, science fiction, and gender performance.
