“1309”
At the turn of the 21st century, a young queer teenager is outed by their family and thus exposes a web of mistrust and lies that the family carries.
Kansas City-based performance artist and singer-turned-playwright Mazzy Mann makes her daring directorial debut in the music-drenched play ‘1309’. Drawing influences from iconic filmmakers such as Charlie Kaufman, John Waters, and Ari Aster, “1309” is an autobiographical portal into the home of an average Midwestern family grappling with the pressures of suburban working-class society. Over the course of two acts, we follow the story of a teenage trans girl learning that maybe she wasn’t the source of her family’s shame after all.
